We, the undersigned residents of New York, are calling on you to take immediate and decisive action to protect the health and lives of millions of New Yorkers.
Federal healthcare cuts threaten catastrophic consequences:
-Over 1.5 million New Yorkers will lose health coverage.
-Hundreds of thousands will be stripped of Essential Plan access.
-Private insurance premiums will soar, burdening working families.
-Hospitals and health centers will close, especially in underserved areas—denying care, eliminating jobs, and destabilizing entire communities.
New Yorkers will suffer needlessly. Many will die. These outcomes are preventable—but only if our state acts.
The New York Health Act is the common sense solution this moment demands. Our healthcare system has long been broken—dominated by profit-driven insurers who ration care and squeeze families with increasing premiums and high cost sharing. Federal cuts will worsen an already brutal health system, accelerating the collapse of care access, deepening health inequities, and driving up costs for everyone.
But New York doesn't have to wait for Washington. You have the power and the moral responsibility to lead.
